Biography
I am Fife born and bred, having grown up in Kelty and gone to primary and high school in Fife. I’m therefore very honoured to be able to serve the communities and area that I grew up in and live in.
Prior to being elected for the Mid Scotland and Fife region in May 2007, I worked in a variety of research and policy posts. This included working as a Research Officer for the Scottish Parliamentary Labour Group, Research Officer for the trade union AMICUS and a similar role for the Royal College of Nursing. Immediately prior to being elected I was Policy Manager for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, the umbrella body for charities and community and voluntary organisations in Scotland.
Outside of work I have a young daughter and am married to Richard Baker, MSP for North East Scotland, which makes for a very busy household!
With my experience before coming into Parliament and outside of work I know how important social issues like families’ policy, children and young people, housing/homelessness etc. are. My own passionate belief is that we must have a fair society to have a functioning society and I hope to be able to work towards that goal as an MSP.
